H2I Group offers one of the many benefits of Building Information Modeling (BIM)- Virtual Design Coordination (VDC). VDC produced early in the construction process allows us to eliminate potential late project changes, unforeseen coordination conflicts, and waste. Also, updates and communication between team members is streamlined which helps improve accuracy and reduce rework. This technology not only allows design and construction teams to work more efficiently, but allows them to capture the data they create during the process to benefit operations and maintenance activities. This is why VDC and BIM mandates are increasing across the globe.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process that combines multiple tools into one 3D digital representation of the facility or space. It combines all aspects of the construction process including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering. By combining these aspects you are able to see the building as a whole before construction begins. This allows you to see where the pipes run in comparison to where the air ducts are placed or where the electrical is run. You can see where clashes happen and fix them before you run into the problem in the field.
Virtual Design Coordination (VDC) combines BIM with collaboration, metrics, and various other processes to create an even more complete overview of the project. VDC is more than just 3D images and the geometry of a building. It works on the basis of “5 dimensions (5D)”, the first three being the traditional width, height, and depth, and adds in two more: time and cost. H2I Group uses this technology to coordinate our scope of work into the information input by other trades on the job. We can align our products, schedule, and budget to fit alongside theirs.
Overall, the greatest benefit of VDC is the preventative aspect. By increasing collaboration and communication, and by creating virtual walk-throughs that completely mimic the construction, the normal hiccups of a construction project are caught and smoothed out well before they become costly and time-consuming. As the saying goes, measure twice, cut once. With VDC the measuring is done for you, to ensure you only have to order once. Contact us to get started on your project.
Furniture and interior components may seem like something you do down the road. There is much coordination and overlap with H2I Group solutions and other trades that sometimes down the road is just too late. We have seen great success when our design team is able to work with the architect and engineering teams early on.
Do you want your job site to look like the picture to the left? The red marks represent clashes between H2I Group products and the plans already put into place before we were brought into the job. Using the digital twin to plan our scope of work we can fix the issues and coordinate with other trades before the building begins.
Below are photos from a project where clearance zones on the specific sterilizer and steam generator overlapped. H2I worked with the manufacturer and the architect to find an option that fit in the space and re-designed the stainless steel modular wall access to work better in the process. All of the re-design was done prior to bid so no change orders were needed later. H2I Group was contracted for VDC work about 8 weeks prior to the equipment award.
