As part of a broader campus renovation, Asheville High School partnered with H2I Group and general contractor Vannoy to replace its original 1970s gym floor, which had suffered repeated water damage over the years. H2I Group provided the Eclipse Maple Floor System by Robbins, a high-performance solution suitable for both basketball and volleyball. The updated design also honors the legacy of Sonita Warren-Dixon, known as “Coach Vette,” whose name and signature were incorporated into the court. Coach Vette was one of the first Black women to coach varsity boys basketball in North Carolina and the first Black woman to serve as an athletic director in Western North Carolina.
