ABOUT THE PROJECT

The Caltech Moore Marandi Lab is a state-of-the-art optical lab that was designed by TD Architects and built by LCS Construction. The space was a 1,750 square foot renovation project, with the main manufacturer being CiF. H2I Group worked with both of these companies to design and provide overhead equipment to Caltech’s exact specifications.

The challenge H2I Group faced was that the overhead equipment rack design was heavy and complicated, so we needed to come up with a solution that would lighten the load while still being functional and attractive. Our solution was to build the overhead equipment racks out of 80/20 aluminum materials, rather than Unistrut, to lighten the overall load rating while still being able to hold the weight of all of their equipment. Additionally, we provided custom wooden casework for their lab stations so that Caltech could have additional storage space for their equipment.
